When the School family lost a family member suddenly, there was darkness for both Vanessa and Tony. But through finding Jesus again, they experienced His power through healing the hurt they were carrying.
How Do I Find Jesus in the Midst of Darkness?
Life’s journey often leads us through valleys of uncertainty, pain, and darkness. Yet, even in our most challenging moments, there is a profound truth: Jesus is with us. Finding Him in the midst of darkness may feel overwhelming, but it’s possible when we seek Him with open hearts and minds. Here’s how.
Fix Your Eyes on Jesus
The book of Hebrews reminds us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2). When life feels heavy, turning our focus to Jesus anchors us in His unchanging love. Take time each day to read His Word. The Bible is filled with promises of His presence, even in our struggles. Psalms like Psalm 23 offer comfort, assuring us that even in the shadow of death, He walks beside us.
Lean into Community
Darkness can isolate us, but God created us for connection. Being part of a supportive, faith-filled community, like a small group or ministry at RiverGlen, can help you rediscover hope. In groups like Griefshare, Alpha or Rooted, you’ll find a safe space to ask questions and share burdens with others who care deeply for you. Together, you can reflect Christ’s love and encouragement.
Bring Your Pain to Jesus
Jesus knows our struggles. He endured betrayal, pain, and the weight of the world’s sin on the cross. Because of this, He invites us to lay our burdens at His feet (Matthew 11:28-30). Prayer is a powerful way to release your worries to Him. Whether you pray silently or aloud, trust that He hears you and is already working on your behalf.
Choose Generosity and Gratitude
Sometimes, the simplest acts of kindness can bring light to our darkest days. Generosity—whether through serving, giving, or simply sharing love—allows us to reflect Jesus to others. Gratitude shifts our perspective from what we lack to the blessings we’ve received, even amidst hardship.
Persevere with Faith
Darkness can feel endless, but faith gives us the courage to keep going. Hebrews 12 encourages us to throw off anything that entangles us and run with perseverance. Faith doesn’t always mean understanding why we face trials, but it does mean trusting that God is good, even when life is not.
